THE WORD OF GOD SPREAD

THE GROWTH OF THE EARLY CHURCH
The growth of the Early Church in Jerusalem was nothing short of spectacular! What were some of the reasons for the phenomenal growth? One text sheds important light.
Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith. Acts 6:7
- It was not just numerical growth
- Two aspects may be highlighted:
a) There was the spread of the Word of God
b) There was significant focus on multiplying Disciples!
THE SPREAD OF THE WORD OF GOD
This was the wisdom of the Apostles who led the Church. They had been taught the Word of God by the Lord Jesus Himself. They became thoroughly committed to teaching Word of God too.
THE FOCUS ON DISCIPLESHIP
The earliest believers became Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. These Disciples had become Apostles. They were committed to helping others to become Disciples as well!
THE CHALLENGES THAT LIE AHEAD
The Focus of our Church in the past, has been on these two vital features.
- The Focus on the Word of God
a) This is our Focus in the Pulpit Ministry
b) It is a strong focus of the Sunday School Ministry
c) All Fellowship Groups are committed to teaching the Word of God
- The Focus on Discipleship
a) Not everybody wants to take up the Challenge of Discipleship
b) Nevertheless, this Focus must not be lost!
We have seen how the Lord has blessed Bethany because we have followed the example of the Jerusalem Church. Let us continue to be deeply committed to focus on the teaching of God’s Word and Discipleship! May the Lord continue to help us to grow as a Church Family in Singapore, India, Australia, Myanmar and Kenya!
