FALSE PROPHETS AMONG THE PEOPLE

MANY WARNINGS GIVEN
The Lord Jesus warned His Disciples about false prophets. The Apostles also strenuously warned the churches about false teachers and prophets.
1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.
2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.
3 By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber. 2 Peter 2:1-3
- Clear words of warning
a) There would be false prophets
b) There would be false teachers
- What is alarming?
a) They are found “among” the Lord’s people
b) The threat is from within
- Wherein is the danger?
a) They will do their work secretly
b) Their teachings may appear to be sound
c) However, when examined thoroughly, they are “heresies”
d) They end up denying the Lord Jesus
e) Their skill is in using deception
- The sad reality
a) Many will follow their ways
b) The way of truth would be blasphemed
JUDGMENT OF THESE FALSE PROPHETS
We need to be on guard. But we need not be overwhelmed by fear. We can count on the Lord to protect us. We can be sure that these false prophets would be judged and condemned.
- God’s judgment is not idle
- Their destruction will not slumber
