MANY VITAL TRUTHS

The Lord Jesus taught His Disciples many important truths. The following may be highlighted:

  1. The Doctrine of Salvation
  2. Discipleship and its relevant challenges to serve the Lord

THE DOCTRINE OF THE SECOND COMING

This doctrine also had to be taught. This was a complex teaching that involved so many factors. The Apostle Peter devoted his second pastoral epistle to help his readers to learn how to respond appropriately to this doctrine.

13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless;

15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you,

16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.     2 Peter 3:13-16

A WORD OF ADMONITION
Peter was not the only Apostle to write about the Return of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul also wrote on this subject. But his thoughts on this doctrine were not easy to comprehend. Those who were unlearned were warned that they might hurt themselves doctrinally if they tried to master very complex issues.

Diligence was taught by the Lord Jesus. The Apostle Peter was wise to give emphasis to this focus!
