BLESS THE LORD, O MY SOUL

Text: Psalm 103
3 July 2022

CELEBRATING 40+9 YEARS OF CHURCH MINISTRY

We celebrate the LORD’s blessings outpoured on us for nearly 5 decades. Psalm 103 readily comes to mind.

1Bless the Lord, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,
Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.     Psalm 103:1-5

A SHORT LIST OF BLESSINGS

The author of Psalm 103 was king David. There were many more blessings than what was listed in the above text. But these blessings were highlighted for good reason.

  1. Blessings

a) They are indeed “benefits”

b) They are not to be taken for granted!

  1. Highlighting some of these blessings:

a) Forgiveness of iniquities

b) Healing of diseases

c) Redemption from destruction

d) The gifts of lovingkindness and tender mercies

e) Renewal of strength through provision of good food

HOW SHOULD WE RESPOND APPROPRIATELY?

The Psalmist offers his response as an example of how we may thank God!

  1. Let us learn to bless the LORD
  2. Let us learn to bless Him from the depth of our soul
  3. Let us determine never to forget any of God’s blessings!

Let us recall all that God has blessed us with! May our hearts bless the LORD well as we remember His manifold blessings!
