"Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited"

Text: Zechariah 14:11

TOPOGRAPHICAL CHANGES

One of the things that God would do when His kingdom is established would be to change the topography of the land, especially with reference to Jerusalem.

“All the land shall be turned into a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem.
Jerusalem shall be raised up and inhabited in her place from Benjamin’s Gate
to the place of the First Gate and the Corner Gate,
and from the Tower of Hananel to the king’s winepresses.
The people shall dwell in it;
And no longer shall there be utter destruction,
But Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.”
Zechariah 14:10-11

1. The landscape will change

a) The land
i) Instead of being mountainous, it would become a plain.
ii) From Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem.
b) Jerusalem itself
i) It would be raised up and inhabited.
ii) Benjamin’s Gate, First Gate, Corner Gate.
(The Benjamin Gate was not well-featured in Biblical literature;
The prophet Jeremiah was imprisoned here. {Jeremiah 20:2})
iii) From the Tower of Hananel to the King’s winepresses.
(This Tower was briefly mentioned in Nehemiah 12:39)

These places were actual physical places. The kingdom of God established would include a physical dimension.

2. Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited

a) People would dwell there in safety.
b) Utter destruction would be a thing of the past.

3. A New Jerusalem

a) It would be a physical reality.
b) It would symbolise a greater spiritual and eternal reality.
