"Likewise, exhort the young men..."

Text: Titus 2:6

ANOTHER MINISTRY HIGHLIGHTED

The apostle Paul was a very highly skilled servant of the Lord. He was encouraging Titus to give special and needed attention to different groups of people. In this text he focused on a ministry to the young men.

“Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded.”
Titus 2:6

1. “Likewise”

a) This word would suggest that Paul was making reference to another group of people.
b) Ministering to the different age groups separately.
i) This is wise and good.
ii) Their needs would be different.
iii) There would be different content too.

2. “The young men”

a) This is not just a reference to those who are spiritually younger.
b) This is a reference to those who are chronologically younger.
c) Is this restricted only to young men?
i) In application it would refer to those who are younger in age.
ii) This term may be used generically.
iii) The word “brethren” is also used generically (technically it is a reference to “brothers”).

3. “Exhort”

a) This word suggests “encouragement”.
b) This does not mean they do not need instruction.
c) Both are needed.

4. “To be sober-minded”

a) This word has a number of features.
b) A short list:-
i) Good sense
ii) Self-control
iii) Sensible
iv) Sound judgment
