"Heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ..."
Text: Romans 8:17
EXPANDING ON THE SUBJECT OF SONSHIP
There were more things that the apostle Paul had to bring up. These were some of the wonderful revelatory insights God gave to him to communicate.
“And if children, then heirs-
heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ,
if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may be
glorified with Him.”
Romans 8:17
1. A relationship
a) To be called “sons and daughters” of God is essentially a privileged relationship.
b) If the adoption of sons is all we have, that would be already wonderful.
2. More than just a relationship
a) Heirs
i) A tremendous additional idea.
ii) Actually a logical concept that follows from “sonship”.
b) Heirs of God
i) God is the One who declares us “heirs”.
ii) Children and heirs go together beautifully.
c) Joint heirs with Christ
i) An even more profound thought is given.
ii) Christ is the rightful Heir of God!
iii) God has promised Him the world (literally).
iv) We are partakers of all that Christ has been promised.
ARE WE PREPARED TO BE FULLY IDENTIFIED WITH CHRIST?
Christ so fully identifies with us He has made us joint heirs! Paul raised a challenging question to all who declare their faith in Christ. Is there a willingness to identify with Christ in His suffering?
