Day 183

"Makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God."

Text: Romans 8:27

OUR INTERCESSORY PRAYERS

How effective are our intercessory prayers? We would have to admit we are not that effective in our intercessory efforts. We fail in a number of areas. Three may be highlighted:-

1. We lack faith.

2. We lack diligence.

3. We lack comprehension of God’s will.

4. Our hearts are not always pure and clean when we pray.

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT’S INTERCESSION

What about the intercessory ministry of the Spirit of God? How does that compare? Let us ponder the following text carefully.

“Now He who searches the hearts knows
what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes
intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”
Romans 8:27

1. Prayers are offered to “He who searches the hearts”.

a) This is a reference to God the Father.
b) The Lord Jesus Christ offers prayers to the Father (Cf. John 17).
c) The Holy Spirit also offers intercessory prayers to the Father.
d) The Father will examine all prayers offered to Him.
e) He will search the heart and mind of the intercessor.
f) The Father knows the mind of the Holy Spirit… that He is completely holy!

2. Prayers must be according to the will of God.

a) The Holy Spirit intercedes for us according to the Will of God.
b) He succeeds where our best efforts may fail.
c) Much encouragement to be drawn from this glorious text.
