"Whether we live or die, we are the Lord's."

Text: Romans 14:8

VITAL TRUTHS ABOUT OUR RELATIONSHIP TO THE LORD

Paul had a very strong understanding of how the believer should live out his short sojourn on earth. Outright, he rejected the idea of living to self! He put up a very strong statement concerning living for the Lord!

“For if we live, we live to the Lord;
and if we die, we die to the Lord.
Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.”
Romans 15:8

1. Our relationship to the Lord

The following things may be said about our relationship with the Lord.

a) Beginning Relationship
i) He is our Saviour!
ii) He is our Redeemer!
iii) He is our God!
b) Other levels
i) He is our Teacher [trainer, mentor, guide] (Cf. John 14-16)
ii) He is our Master and Lord (Cf. John 20:28)
iii) He is our Great High Priest (Cf. Hebrews 2-10)
iv) He is the Author and Finisher of our faith (Cf. Hebrews 12:2)
v) He is our Comfort (Cf. 2 Corinthians 1)

2. A classic example (in the apostle Paul; Cf. Philippians 1:20-26)

a) Living to magnify the Lord Jesus (Cf. Philippians 1:20):
i) By life
ii) By death
b) Dying for the cause of Christ

Death was not feared at all! To the great apostle Paul, death was gain. This great lifestyle began with learning how to live for the Lord Jesus Christ!
