"For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again..."

Text: Romans 14:9

THE ESTABLISHING OF CHRIST’S LORDSHIP

The Lordship of Christ is a doctrine that must be clearly understood and established. His Lordship came about because of what He had done.

“For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again,
that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living.”
Romans 14:9

1. To this end

a) Jesus had a clear understanding of the significance of the following:-
i) His life (implied)
ii) His death
iii) His resurrection
iv) His life (as High Priest in heaven)
b) Lordship was in mind
i) He could speak of lordship by virtue of who He was,
ii) He chose to establish lordship through His death.
iii) His overcoming of death (and sin and Satan) confirmed His lordship.
iv) His resurrection-life in heaven further establishes His lordship.

2. Lord of the Living

a) The living owe it to the Lord to live for Him.
b) The living must endeavour to practise conscious submission to the Lord.
c) The living must find joy and meaning in practising the lordship of Christ.

3. Lord of the dead

a) The Lord will keep the souls of the dead.
b) He will ensure their place in His kingdom in heaven.
