"Exchanged the truth of God for the lie..."

Text: Romans 1:25

 APPRECIATION OF SPIRITUAL TRUTH

Truth comes in many forms. Many appreciate the importance of judicial truth. Others argue for the right to express their opinions, which they regard as “the truth”. However, few know how to appreciate theological or spiritual truth. The following text highlights this problem.

“Who exchanged the truth of God for the lie,
and worshipped and served the creature rather than
the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.”
Romans 1:25

1. Knowing how to tell the difference

Paul seems to be writing about people who had difficulty in distinguishing the following things:-

a) The truth of God and lies,
b) Worship of the Creator rather than worship of the creature.

2. Exchanging truth for lies

How does this happen? Let us consider the following:-

a) If “lies” are presented as truth.
b) If “lies” are not seen as lies, but just a line of thought.
c) If “lies” go unchallenged by truth.
d) If “lies” are accepted and promoted by people who do not believe in God.

If the above take place, then it is possible for the truth of God to be exchanged by lies.

3. Worship of the creature rather than the Creator

How can this occur? Let us ponder the following:-

a) If the creature is seen as representing the Creator.
b) If the creature is seen as a vehicle of the Creator.
c) If the idea of a Creator is dismissed in the first place.

If the above occur, then it is possible to end up worshipping the creature rather than the Creator. In the process of time, worship of the creature becomes “accepted”.
