"When He opened the second seal"

Text: Revelation 6:3

THE SECOND SEAL OPENED

The Lamb of God went on to open the second seal. Once again, John was invited to observe the opening of the second seal.

“When He opened the second seal,
I heard the second living creature saying,
‘Come and see.’
Another horse, fiery red, went out.
And it was granted to the one who sat on it
to take peace from the earth,
and that people should kill one another;
and there was given to him a great sword.”
Revelation 6:3-4

1. Invitation from the living creature.

a) The first living creature invited John to “Come and see”.

b) The second living creature also said to him, “Come and see”.

c) What a great privilege and honour to be in the throne room in heaven to witness the opening of the seven seals.

2. A Red Horse.

a) The horse was “fiery red”.

b) The horseman sitting on the Red Horse was given permission:

i) To take peace from the earth.

ii) It is obvious that the Two Horsemen are connected.

iii) The rider of the White Horse goes out conquering and to conquer.

iv) The rider of the Red Horse goes out to take peace from the earth.

c) The second Horseman was given “a great sword”.

i) Both the bow and the sword are symbols of war.

ii) The bow can maim and kill from a distance.

iii) The sword can hurt and kill in the battle field.

iv) Both horsemen show that the future would be one of war and not peace.

3. Consequences

a) Many nations would go to war against each other.

b) Many would be injured and slain.

c) War brings terrible consequences on:

i) The nations

ii) The people

iii) Families

iv) Children

d) This word of prophecy is a grim one.
