Day 46

"Behold, a white horse"

Text: Revelation 6:2

THE FIRST SEAL OPENED

The first seal was opened by the Lamb of God. John was invited to see what would unfold as the first seal is opened.

“Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals;
and I heard one of the four living creatures
saying with a voice like thunder,
‘Come and see.’
And I looked, and behold, a white horse.
He who sat on it had a bow;
and a crown was given to him,
and he went out conquering and to conquer.”
Revelation 6:1-2

1. An invitation given to John.

a) This invitation was issued by one of the living creatures (cherubim).

b) The living creatures were first mentioned in Ezekiel 1.

c) They are mighty angels called Cherubim.

d) They carried great authority.

e) This invitation came from one of the cherubim to John to observe “Come and see”.

2. John’s observation.

a) He saw a White Horse.

b) He also saw a man sitting on the White Horse.

c) This was the first of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

3. Mistaken identity.

a) Because of the White Horse, many mistake the rider as a reference to the Lord Jesus Christ.

b) In the context of Revelation 6, he was one of the Four Horsemen.

c) Thus, this rider is NOT the Lord Jesus Christ.

d) This rider was armed with a bow and he determined to go forth and make war.

e) He was determined to conquer as many nations as he could.

f) His ambition was like that of past world-conquerors.

i) He will be a tyrant-dictator.

ii) He will make wars successfully too (at least initially).

iii) The colour of the horse does not identify the rider as the Lord Jesus.
