Day 33

"I will make him a pillar"

Text: Revelation 3:12

A PILLAR IN THE TEMPLE OF GOD

The Church at Philadelphia received no word of rebuke. The only other church that was similarly well commended was the Church at Smyrna. The Lord promised a special reward for those who were overcomers.

“He who overcomes,
I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God,
and he shall go out no more.
I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God,
the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God.
And I will write on him My new name.
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
Revelation 3:12-13

1. “He who overcomes”

a) The possibility of being an overcomer is very real.

b) The heart must be stirred to desire to become overcomers.

2. A short list of special blessings was promised to the overcomer.

a) To be made a pillar in the temple of God.

i) This is high honour.

ii) The overcomer would be recognised by the Lord.

iii) This recognition would be seen by all.

iv) A pillar would reflect the beauty and majesty of the Temple.

b) “He shall go out no more”

i) The days of persecution would cease.

ii) The overcomer has returned to the Lord in full honour.

iii) He need not dread going out to search for safety and refuge.

iv) Those days would only serve as a memory now.

c) Special names written on the overcomer.

i) God’s name would be written on his heart.

ii) The name of the New Jerusalem would be written down too.

iii) The Lord’s own “new name” would also be written on his heart.

iv) These were special ways of honouring the overcomer.

3. Hearing what the Spirit of God was saying.

a) The Holy Spirit works side by side with the Lord Jesus.

b) He administers all these sayings of the Lord Jesus.

c) It would be wise to prick up our ears to listen to what the Spirit of God is seeking to say to the church and to all who desire to become overcomers.
