"Granted to him to make war with the saints"

Text: Revelation 13:7

THE BOOK OF LIFE

The world would face intense suffering as the Beast of the Sea wages war. God allowed the Beast of the Sea to wage warfare. The Beast of the Sea would also target “the saints” in his war campaigns.

“It was granted to him to make war
with the saints and to overcome them.
And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation.
All who dwell on the earth will worship him,
whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb
slain from the foundation of the world.”
Revelation 13:7-8

1. Ultimately, Divine permission must be obtained.

a) The Beast of the Sea may be empowered by the Dragon.

b) He may exercise great authority over the world.

c) But in order to wage war, it must be within the Will of God.

d) On this count too we see the limitations of the authority given by the Dragon to the Beast of the Sea.

2. The authority of the Beast of the Sea described.

a) It extended to every tribe.

b) Every tongue.

c) Every nation.

3. The Beast of the Sea would also be able to:

a) Make war against the saints of God.

b) He can also overcome the saints.

i) When they are weak.

ii) When they are not vigilant.

iii) When they are not armed with the armour of God.

4. The response of the world at large.

a) Many will worship the Beast.

b) They fear his authority.

c) They fear the power of the Dragon.

d) They fear for their lives.

e) The fear of the Lord was not in their hearts to protect them.

5. The Book of Life.

a) This was the bright spot in a landscape of great darkness.

b) God has not forgotten those who have placed their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

c) All who have learned to trust in the Lord would have their names written in the Book of Life.

i) The Beast of the Sea may cause them to be slain physically.

ii) But their lives are already hidden in the Lord Jesus Christ.

iii) Their souls cannot be harmed by even the Dragon.

iv) This is the glorious hope of all the saints.
