"He opened his mouth in blasphemy against God"

Text: Revelation 13:6

THE REIGN OF THE BEAST

The Beast of the Sea would exercise the authority given to him by the Dragon, his master. He would be like the Dragon in many ways for he was closely linked.

“And he was given a mouth
speaking great things and blasphemies,
and he was given authority
to continue for forty-two months.
Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God,
to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle,
and those who dwell in heaven.”
Revelation 13:5-6

1. The mouth of the Beast of the Sea.

a) He would speak with all skill and authority.

b) “Great things” would be within his grasp:

i) To impress his hearers.

ii) To inspire them to follow him.

c) Blasphemies

i) He would blaspheme regularly.

ii) Nothing is sacred to him.

iii) He will rage and curse.

iv) He has no regard for anything or anyone apart from himself.

2. Limitation of authority.

a) His authority comes from the Dragon.

b) But the limitation of time belongs to God.

c) God limited the authority to last 42 months (3 ½ years).

d) This limitation of time must have irked the Beast of the Sea.

e) But nothing could be done to break this decree from God.

3. In arrogant defiance against God.

a) His response was that of rage.

b) The sphere of his blasphemy:

i) Against God.

ii) Against His holy name.

iii) Against His Tabernacle.

iv) Against all who dwelt in heaven.

c) But all the ranting would achieve absolutely nothing.
