"I am the Alpha and the Omega"

Text: Revelation 1:8

A WORD OF CONFIRMATION

John recorded this word from the Lord Jesus Himself. This word of revelation given to the Apostle John was correctly recorded. John’s description of the majesty of the Lord Jesus is confirmed by the Lord.

“‘I am the Alpha and the Omega,
the Beginning and the End,’ says the Lord,
‘who is and who was and who is to come,
the Almighty.'”
Revelation 1:8

1. The Greek alphabet.

a) The first letter is Alpha.

b) The last letter is Omega.

2. The Application to the Lord Jesus.

a) The Lord is the Alpha, the Beginning.

b) The Lord is also the Omega, the End.

3. God’s plan of salvation.

a) It begins with the Lord Jesus when He came (Advent).

b) It ends with the Lord Jesus when He returns.

c) This is an amazing and sobering reality.

4. The cryptic description of the Lord Jesus.

a) “Who is”

i) The eternal existence of the Lord Jesus is noted.

ii) He is truly the eternal Son of God.

b) “Who was”

i) The Lord Jesus came to earth as the Son of Man.

ii) His role of coming as the Saviour was fulfilled completely.

c) “Who is to come”

i) The Return of the Lord Jesus is the event that all believers should look forward to.

ii) He will return as the King of kings and the Lord of lords.

5. “The Almighty”

a) The power and glory revealed points to the Lord’s majesty.

b) The Lord Jesus confirms that He is indeed The Almighty.

c) He is to be revered and worshipped as The Almighty.
