Day 5

"And has made us kings and priests"

Text: Revelation 1:6

THE HONOUR BESTOWED

The mission of the Lord Jesus came from God the Father. He came to manifest God and His love for mankind. His task was to provide salvation through offering Himself as the Lamb of God. He had to be prepared to lay down His life as atonement for our sins. The Lord Jesus faithfully fulfilled all that was required of Him and thus became the Saviour of the world. All the ascriptions given to the Lord Jesus are perfectly sound and proper. What is amazing is that the Lord Jesus has bestowed much honour to all His faithful followers. He shares with them many blessings!

“And has made us kings and priests to His God and Father,
to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”
Revelation 1:6

1. The standing of true believers before God.

a) The Lord has made us “kings”.

i) This is a truly profound promotion.

ii) Believers are called “saints” (Ephesians 1:1; Philippians 1:1).

iii) John declares that we are “made kings to His God and Father”.

b) The Lord has also made us “priests”.

i) The word “priests” must be traced back to the writings of Moses.
(Cf. Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers).

ii) They were specially chosen by God to be His servants.

iii) They were given the privilege of serving Him in the Sanctuary
(Tabernacle and Temple).

iv) This privilege was reserved for the sons of Levi.

v) This privileged position has been bestowed on all true believers.

2. Ascribing glory to God.

a) John responded to this revelation from God by giving glory to Him.

b) This response is truly most appropriate.

i) To God must be ascribed all “glory and dominion”.

ii) Man can only reflect God’s great glory.

c) It is right that we ever seek to give to God the glory and honour that is rightfully His.

3. Ponder this meditation.

“The Lord reigns;
Let the peoples tremble!
He dwells between the cherubim;
Let the earth be moved!
The Lord is great in Zion,
And He is high above all the peoples.
Let them praise Your great and awesome name—
He is holy.”
Psalm 99:1-3
