Day 69 – Psalm 98

“Let the sea roar, and all its fullness…” Psalm 98:7a

STRONG SIMILARITY

Psalm 98 concludes on a strong note of confidence and joy in the Lord as the Judge of the earth. There is a strong similarity of thought with Psalm 96:11-13.

“Let the sea roar, and all its fullness,
The world and those who dwell in it;
Let the rivers clap their hands;
Let the hills be joyful together before the LORD,
For He is coming to judge the earth.
With righteousness He shall judge the world,
And the peoples with equity.”
Psalm 98:7-9

1. The Lord is coming to judge the earth

a) This thought is similar to that expressed in Psalm 96:13.
b) He will employ Divine righteousness to judge the earth.
c) He will judge all the peoples of the earth with equity.

2. How should the Lord’s coming be viewed?

The elements of nature are cited as examples:-

a) The sea and all its fullness will be happy to receive the Lord.
b) The rivers will clap their hands when He comes to the earth.
c) The hills will be joyful when the Lord returns.

3. How should the world receive the Lord?

a) The world (that is, His creation) would be happy at the return of the Lord.
b) The redeemed of the Lord would be happy to receive the Saviour-Redeemer.
c) There will be great joy to those who have experienced the salvation of God.

4. Those who will not respond positively

a) The wicked will fear the return of God.
b) The enemies of the Lord and His people will dread the coming of the Lord.
