Day 52 – Psalm 95

“Today, if you will hear His voice.” Psalm 95:7d

GRAVE DANGER

Our relationship with God is often a very fragile thing. Our worship of God is also not consistently robust and strong. We need to guard our hearts from subtle and grave danger.

“Today, if you will hear His voice:
‘Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion,
As in the day of trial in the wilderness,
When your fathers tested Me;
They tried Me, though they saw My work.'”
Psalm 95:7d-9

1. God speaks to His people

a) God will not just silently accept the worship we offer.
b) He will speak to His people.
i) He will cause them to hear “His voice”.
ii) He will allow them to see “His work”.

2. Lessons from past history

a) Israel did not want to hear God’s voice (Isaiah 30:8-11).
i) It told the seers not to see (the prophetic future).
ii) It told the prophets not to preach God’s word to them.
b) The nation hardened its heart.
c) The children of Israel arose in rebellion.
d) They tested/tried God.
i) They questioned His ability to provide for them.
ii) No matter how many times God demonstrated His power, they complained.

3. Lessons for the present generation

They must guard their hearts so that they would not sin as their fathers did. A strong consciousness of God in worship must be cultivated to fend off grave sin!
