Day 3 – Psalm 90

“You turn man to destruction…” Psalm 90:3a

ANOTHER VITAL SUBJECT

Another vital subject that Moses had much knowledge of was "man". In his many years of working with the children of Israel, Moses grew in his understanding of man in relationship to God.

"You turn man to destruction,
And say, 'Return, O children of men.'"
Psalm 90:3

1. What is man in relationship to God?

a) Man is not "everlasting".
b) Man can perish.
c) He is very finite.
2. "You turn man to destruction"
a) Man may feel powerful and indestructible.
b) The reality is quite different.
c) God in His sovereign power has control of life and death.
d) He can "turn man to destruction".

3. "And say, 'Return, O children of men'"

a) Return
This is an expression that may be traced to the following text:-

"In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread
Till you return to the ground,
For out of it you were taken;
For dust you are,
And to dust you shall return."
Genesis 3:19

b) It is an expression that describes:-
i) Death
ii) At death man returns to the ground… to dust
c) What does it take for death to occur?
It only takes God to say these words, 'Return, O children of men'.

How very fragile life is! How dependent we are upon God for our very existence!
