Day 71 – Psalm 9

“Put them in fear, O LORD…” Psalm 9:20a

DEEP ASSURANCE

David concluded his psalm with a deep sense of assurance that his trust in the Lord was sound and intact!

“For the needy shall not always be forgotten;
The expectation of the poor shall not perish forever.
Arise, O LORD, do not let man prevail;
Let the nations be judged in Your sight.
Put them in fear, O LORD,
That the nations may know themselves to be but men.”
Psalm 9:18-20

1. Wonderful promises to the poor and needy

a) They may seem to be forgotten.
b) But they shall not always be forgotten.
c) Their expectations
i) For justice.
ii) For Divine help.

These expectations would be met!

2. The nations

a) They will be judged
i) Immediately
ii) Ultimately
b) Divine justice would prevail even if human justice is wanting!

AN AWESOME PLEA

The psalmist David concluded his meditation, his song on a very strong note!

1. “Put them in fear, O LORD”

This is an awesome plea indeed!

2. “That the nations may know themselves to be but men”

It is a plea that we would do well to bring before God even today! Man needs to know afresh that he is a mere mortal! There is a God who sits enthroned above!
