Day 344 – Psalm 89

“His seed also I will make to endure forever…” Psalm 89:29a

GOD’S COVENANT BLESSING

One of the most remarkable things to note about God’s covenant blessing is that it extends to posterity. God’s plan is not just for the individual. His desire is to see descendants blessed too.

“His seed also I will make to endure forever,
And his throne as the days of heaven.”
Psalm 89:29

1. Posterity is in mind in this text

a) His seed.
b) His throne.
c) These are references to continuity.

2. “Also I will make to endure forever”

a) Note the word “also”.
i) God is conscious that He has already promised much.
ii) He will add this further blessing.
b) In God’s plan His blessings are meant to “endure forever”.
c) God’s covenant promises were meant to last forever.

A MESSIANIC ELEMENT

A Messianic element may be detected in this promise. The reasons are as follows:-

1. “His seed”

a) This word is in the singular.
b) The word “seed” is distinguished from the word “sons” in Psalm 89:30.
c) We learn from the apostle Paul how he interpreted Abraham’s Seed as a reference to Christ (Galatians 3:16).

2. “His throne as the days of heaven”

a) This statement would be most applicable with reference to the Messiah and His kingdom.
b) This text is then prophetic.
