“My arm shall strengthen him.” Psalm 89:21b

TRACING GOD’S HAND IN DAVID’S LIFE

Ethan the Ezrahite carefully noted the work of God in David’s life.

1. He had given help to David (Psalm 89:19b).

2. He had chosen him (Psalm 89:19c).

3. He had exalted him (Psalm 89:19c).

4. He had anointed him as king of Israel (Psalm 89:20).

FURTHER UPLIFTING WORDS OF PROMISE

God didn’t stop there. Further uplifting words were given.

“With whom My hand shall be established;
Also My arm shall strengthen him.”
Psalm 89:21

1. “With whom My hand shall be established”

a) “My hand”
i) This is a reference to God’s work.
ii) God’s hand was doing a great work in Israel.
iii) The nation would have a good king in David.
b) “Shall be established”
i) David had not yet been established as the king of Israel.
ii) God needed to establish this work.

2. “Also My arm shall strengthen him”

a) David would need all the help he could get to establish the kingdom.
b) God promised that His mighty arm would strengthen him.
i) Mental strength would be needed.
ii) Spiritual strength would be needed as well.
iii) Physical strength must not be taken for granted too.
