“Righteousness will go before Him…” Psalm 85:13a
A REFLECTION ON “RIGHTEOUSNESS”
The sons of Korah employed another significant theological word in Psalm 85. That word is “righteousness”.
“Righteousness and peace have kissed.”
Psalm 85:10b
“And righteousness shall look down from heaven.”
Psalm 85:11b
“Righteousness will go before Him,
And shall make His footsteps our pathway.”
Psalm 85:13
1. Man’s part
a) To cultivate the virtue of personal righteousness.
b) To practise righteousness and peace together.
c) Personal righteousness is not self-righteousness.
d) True righteousness ought to result in being able to live peaceably with others.
2. God’s part
a) God will look down from heaven favourably on all who fear Him.
b) He will look upon man with eyes of righteousness.
c) He will go before His saints with righteousness.
d) He will teach His people how to walk in practical righteousness.
e) He will reveal His footsteps to those who fear Him.
f) His footsteps would then be the pathway of the righteous.
THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE
The One Person who revealed the pathway of righteousness fully is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. He said,
“I am the way, the truth and the life.”
John 14:6a
He came to reveal Divine footsteps. He lived out a life of full and complete righteousness. And He invites all to follow Him and to walk in His footsteps. It is only when we walk in paths of righteousness that we will see how God will give to His saints what is good.
