Day 268 – Psalm 85

“Yes, the LORD will give what is good…” Psalm 85:12a

THE BLESSINGS OF GOD

The children of Israel had to endure the fierceness of God’s anger for many years, but only because they had chosen to walk in the paths of sin and iniquity. If the nation turned away from sinful ways and chose to walk in mercy, truth, righteousness and peace they will experience great blessings from God.

“Yes, the LORD will give what is good;
And our land will yield its increase.”
Psalm 85:12

1. “Yes”

The sons of Korah used this simple idea to express two things:-

a) Confidence in the Lord and His power to bless.
b) Assurance that God would indeed bless.

2. “The LORD will give what is good”

a) This is a reference to the giving of blessings.
b) God will give good blessings.
c) These would include physical blessings on the land of Israel.

3. “And our land”

a) The land is a physical, geographical area (The promised land of Canaan).
b) The land was used in two ways in Psalm 85.
i) It was called “Your land” (or “God’s land”).
ii) It was also called “our land” (Psalm 85:9b, 12b).

4. “And our land will yield its increase”

a) The blessings of God will ensure fruitfulness.
b) The land would be fruitful because of God’s blessings.
c) Man must not fail to do his part or these blessings would not be outpoured.
d) He must cultivate and live righteously on earth.
