“Show us Your mercy, LORD,
And grant us Your salvation.”
Psalm 85:7

Let us consider the following thoughts:-

1. The LORD God of Israel

a) God Himself had established a covenant relationship with Israel.

c) Israel would be His people.
d) He would hear their cries.

2. Pleading the mercy of the LORD

a) It was the Lord who revealed Himself as a God of mercy (Exodus 34:6-7).
b) It was His prerogative to show mercy.
c) There was also His promise that if His people turned away from sin and seek Him even if they were at the ends of the earth, He would hear them (Deuteronomy 4:27-31).

3. “And grant us Your salvation”

a) The Lord was the God of (their) salvation (Psalm 85:4a).
b) It would be appropriate to plead for salvation from the Lord.
c) The things that make up the salvation prayed for:-
i) Respite from the attacks of hostile enemies.
ii) Restoration of the land.
iii) Revival of faith and spirit.
iv) Return of a spirit of joy.
v) Removal of God’s wrath completely
