“Blessed is the man whose strength is in You…” Psalm 84:5a

APPRECIATING ANOTHER BLESSING OF GOD

The blessings of God have many manifestations. The following text describes one of them.

“Blessed is the man who strength is in You,
Whose heart is set on pilgrimage.”
Psalm 84:5

1. What is a pilgrimage?

a) The Lord gave instructions to ancient Israel to appear before Him in Jerusalem.
b) Three times a year all males must make a special effort to appear before God (Exodus 23:14-17).
i) The feast of the Passover and Unleavened Bread
ii) The Feast of Harvest (Also known as Pentecost)
iii) The Feast of Ingathering (Also known as The Feast of Tabernacles)
c) These trips to Jerusalem were known as “pilgrimages”.

2. “Whose heart is set on pilgrimage”

a) God made these pilgrimages a requirement for all the males.
b) But there must also be a heart that was desirous of obeying God’s commandment.
c) It would be pointless to merely fulfill a religious requirement if the heart is not there.

3. “Blessed is the man whose strength is in You”

a) It would take “strength” to fulfill these pilgrimage demands.
i) Strength to be found in the heart.
ii) Strength to be found in the will.
iii) Strength physical must also be found.
b) Wherein may this strength be found?
i) It is to be found in the Lord Himself.
ii) Blessed indeed is the man who seeks that strength to fulfill God’s commandments.
