Day 245 – Psalm 84

“Blessed are those who dwell in Your house…” Psalm 84:4a

A SPECIAL BLESSING

God’s blessings were abundantly bestowed on the children of Israel. The following text identified a special blessing.

“Blessed are those who dwell in Your house;
They will still be praising You.”
Psalm 84:4

1. “Blessed”

a) There is a special application of the word “blessed”.
b) It has to do with the specific context found in Psalm 84:3.
c) The semantic field of “Blessed”:-
i) It includes the idea of “happiness”.
ii) The element of “secure comfort” may also be read in the context.
d) The sparrows and swallows are indeed blessed because they have found security and comfort.

2. “Blessed are those who dwell in Your house”

a) The immediate application of the word “blessed” would refer to two groups of people:-
i) The Aaronic priesthood
ii) The Levitical family
b) How may they be said to “dwell” in God’s house?
i) They did not actually live in the temple.
ii) They had access to the house of God.
iii) They would spend long hours fulfilling their temple duties.
iv) Because of the close association with the house of God they may be described as dwelling there.

3. “They will still be praising You”

Singing to the Lord was one special spiritual duty assigned to the Levitical singers. But the reason for their singing was deeply motivated by the fact that they were blessed to dwell in the House of the Lord.
