Day 220 – Psalm 82

“All of you are children of the Most High.” Psalm 82:6b

THE NOBILITY OF MAN

When God created mankind He graciously bestowed nobility. These glorious words well describe the nobility of man.

“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image,
according to Our likeness…’
So God created man in His own image;
in the image of God He created him;
male and female He created them.
Then God blessed them…”
Genesis 1:26a, 27, 28a

MAN IS CAPABLE OF UPHOLDING JUSTICE

This is a thought that we must always bear in mind. It is expressed differently in the following text:-

“I said, ‘You are gods,
And all of you are children of the Most High.'”
Psalm 82:6

1. “I said, ‘You are gods'”

a) This is another application of the word “god”.
b) Man is made capable of doing god-like things:
i) Man is capable of upholding justice.
ii) Man is capable of aiding the poor, the needy, the fatherless etc.

2. “And all of you are children of the Most High”

a) Man may indeed be said to be the offspring of God.
b) All mankind may be described as “children of the Most High”.
i) With reference to Creation.
ii) With reference to potential ability to do that which is good and right.

WHERE MAN HAS FAILED

Where man has failed to be children of the Most High, then he needs to ponder two thoughts:

1. He needs to be redeemed by God.

2. He needs to cultivate himself so that he might reflect his being made in the image of God.
