Psalm 80:18b "Revive us..."

Day 195 – Psalm 80

“Revive us…” Psalm 80:18b

WHAT ELSE WAS NEEDED?

Asaph knew that the nation needed a strong leader to deliver it from its many enemies. But that was not all that the nation needed.

“Then we will not turn back from You;
Revive us, and we will call upon Your name.”
Psalm 80:18

1. “Then we will not turn back from You”

a) This was Israel’s problem.
b) This was a national problem.
c) The nation had turned back from following after the Lord.

2. “Revive us”

a) The nation needed a spiritual revival.
b) Individuals needed to be revived too.

3. A combination of two factors

a) There must be a strong and godly leader to lead the nation.
b) There must be a tremendous spiritual revival among the people of Israel.
Only then would Israel be fully and gloriously restored.

4. “And we will call upon Your name”

Asaph’s desire to see Israel worship God whole-heartedly is understandable. As a Levite he was deeply committed to encouraging the nation to “call upon (God’s) name” in worship.

a) Asaph longed for Israel to return to God.
b) The nation must first be cleansed and restored to God.
c) The nation must be led by a strong leader who could lead the people effectively.
d) The people must be spiritually revived.
e) Then will there be the kind of worship that God truly deserves from His flock.
