Psalm 75:9b "I will sing praises to the God of Jacob."

Day 57 – Psalm 75

“I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.” Psalm 75:9b

UNABLE TO PRAISE GOD

The psalmist Asaph could not find a reason to praise God when he wrote Psalm 74. The nearest approximation to giving praise to God lay in the hope of the poor and needy being given divine deliverance (Psalm 74:21). The psalmist had many petitions to God. When the answers were not forthcoming, he found himself unable to praise God.

A NEW SPIRIT OF PRAISE

God had answered his prayers. He had given full assurance that the wicked would not go unpunished for their evil deeds. The psalmist responded with praise at this juncture.

“But I will declare forever,
I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.”
Psalm 75:9

1. “I will declare forever”

a) This was a fresh and new commitment.
b) What was the content?
i) That in the proper time God will uprightly judge the wicked (Psalm 75:2).
ii) That God had set up firm pillars to uphold human society (Psalm 75:3).
iii) That God is the supreme Judge (Psalm 75:7).
iv) That the wicked would drink the bitter dregs from the cup of God’s wrath (Psalm 75:8).

2. “I will sing praises to the God of Jacob”

a) Reference was made to Jacob because:-
i) He had to endure much suffering.
ii) He found hope in God.
iii) He was blessed as a result of his trust in God.
b) Singing of praises
i) Because God had answered prayers.
ii) Because God will uphold justice.
iii) Because He will not allow the wicked to prevail.
