Day 56 – Psalm 75

“For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup…” Psalm 75:8

ANSWER AFTER ANSWER

The psalmist Asaph wanted an answer from the Lord concerning the wicked. His wait was over. This was God’s answer!

“For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup,
And the wine is red; it is fully mixed, and He pours it out;
Surely its dregs shall all the wicked of the earth drain and drink down.”
Psalm 74:8

1. “For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup”

a) Asaph need not have worried that wickedness would prevail.
b) God has a planned action against the wicked.

2. “And the wine is red; it is fully mixed”

a) The wicked celebrated their victories with wine.
b) Mixing of wine:-
i) It is a reference to fine wine.
ii) It is a reference to good vintage wine.

3. “And He pours it out”

a) The wicked had mocked and scorned God in their victories.
b) They were wrong in their arrogance.
c) God allowed them to savour their victory but that was short-lived.

4. “Surely its dregs shall all the wicked of the earth drain and drink down”

a) Dregs is a reference to the residue that is found at the bottom of a barrel of wine.
b) It is bitter and is usually not drunk.
c) The wicked had imbibed so much wine that they were too drunk to notice that they had drunk the bitter dregs.
d) This is a reference to the punishment God will mete out against the wicked.
e) They may think that they have the upper hand but ultimately God will cause the wicked to taste the bitterness of their wicked deeds.
