“Your enemies roar in the midst of Your meeting place…” Psalm 74:4a

THE ENEMY… YOUR ENEMIES

An important shift took place as the psalmist continued to plead with God in prayer.

“Your enemies roar in the midst of Your meeting place;
They set up their banners for signs.”
Psalm 74:4

1. The enemy

a) This was how the psalmist described the destroyer.
b) The invaders were indeed enemies of the state.

2. Your enemies

a) But were these only Israel’s enemies?
b) Were they not also God’s enemies?
c) Surely they were God’s enemies!

3. The deplorable actions of the enemies

a) They had entered into God’s meeting place with His priests.
i) The Holy Place
ii) The Holy of Holies
b) They had dared to “roar” in the midst of the temple.
c) They had shown total disregard for God and His temple.
d) They had set up their banners for signs.
i) Signs of victory.
ii) Signs of joy in victory over Israel.
iii) Signs of defiance against the God of Israel.
iv) Signs that were meant to cause psychological hurt to Israel.
v) Signs of egotistic arrogance of the enemy.
