“The mountains will bring peace to the people…” Psalm 72:3a

KEY CONCERNS

What should be the key concerns of a king? Solomon was on the right track when he wrote the following text.

“The mountains will bring peace to the people,
And the little hills, by righteousness.”
Psalm 72:3

1. The Mountains

a) There were mountains in Israel.
b) The mountains were figurative for the following:-
i) A symbol of intrinsic power and strength.
ii) A symbol of antiquity well preserved by the power of God.
iii) A source of inspiration when one looks at the massive mountains.
iv) The presence of the mountain would bring a sense of peace to the heart.

2. The little hills

a) Some were part of the range of mountains.
b) One of the hills was called Mount Zion.
c) This was where Jerusalem was founded and built as the capital.
d) This was where the temple was built.

3. Peace and righteousness

a) Peace
This would become a major characteristic in the reign of Solomon. He was committed to bringing peace to the nation.
b) Righteousness
Solomon knew that righteousness was the foundation of a strong kingdom. God would bless his nation if he, as the king, would seek to rule the country by pursuing righteousness.
