“He will judge Your people with righteousness…” Psalm 72:2a

REMEMBERING THE REIGN OF KING DAVID

King David’s reign of 40 years over Israel had been marked by the following:-

1. War with the house of Saul.

2. War with hostile neighbouring kingdoms.

3. Two failed attempts to usurp the throne

a) Absalom 2 Samuel 16-18
b) Adonijah 1 Kings 1:1

Solomon knew that he needed to establish the kingdom that his father had entrusted to him. He would need all the Divine help he could get.

“He will judge Your people with righteousness,
And Your poor with justice.”
Psalm 72:2

1. He

a) Solomon knew that the personal involvement of the king was of vital importance.
b) What kind of a king would he like to be?

2. A deep personal prayer

a) To be a king who will judge with righteousness.
b) To be a king who will judge the poor with justice.

3. Important Realisation

a) That corruption could enter in easily.
b) That the poor would never experience justice… simply because they were poor.
c) That the people in the kingdom were truly “God’s people” and thus they must be well-looked after.
