“Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked…” Psalm 71:4a

TENTACLES OF THE WICKED

The Psalms make frequent reference to the wicked. Evil, being what it is, does not respect anyone. The wicked frequently harassed and threatened King David. The author of Psalm 71 now confesses that he too had some encounters with the wicked.

“Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked,
Out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.”
Psalm 71:4

1. Description of the enemy

a) The wicked

2. Designs of the enemy

a) To oppress
b) To cause suffering
c) To afflict the righteous
d) To destroy if possible

3. Divine Deliverance needed

a) When the victim is not equal in strength to the wicked.
b) When the wicked outnumber the righteous.
c) When life is under severe threat.
d) When there is no one else who can bring about deliverance.

4. “O my God”

a) Personal trust in God is firstly affirmed.
b) Personal faith-relationship in God is strongly applied in trust that this would be honoured.
