Day 310 – Psalm 69

“Let their dwelling place be desolate…” Psalm 69:25a

AN IMPRECATORY PRAYER II

The second part of David’s imprecatory prayer is as follows:-

“Let their dwelling place be desolate;
Let no one live in their tents.
For they persecute the ones You have struck,
And talk of the grief of those You have wounded.
Add iniquity to their iniquity,
And let them not come into Your righteousness.
Let them be blotted out of the book of the living,
And not be written with the righteous.”
Psalm 69:25-28

1. Desolation

a) This is an ominous imprecatory element.
b) It will affect the whole family and possible the next generation.

2. Dark deeds of the wicked

a) Those whom God has struck or wounded.
i) This is a reference to the chastisement God metes out.
ii) The individual(s) would then be most vulnerable.
b) The wicked do evil things.
i) They persecute the vulnerable.
ii) They seem to take perverse delight in speaking about the grief of those whose sufferings had been aggravated.

3. Add iniquity to iniquity… let them be blotted out of the book of the living

a) This is a prayer that their iniquity would not be forgotten.
b) This prayer is that God would mete out death to the wicked.
c) This is a petition that they would never be remembered as the righteous are.
