Day 273 – Psalm 66

“But certainly God has heard me…” Psalm 66:19a

UNCERTAINTY

Many pray without any certainty that God hears and answers prayer. This is a very unfortunate and sad way of understanding prayer.

A REFRESHING TESTIMONY

We have a very refreshing and uplifting testimony in the following text about how God hears and answers prayer.

“But certainly God has heard me;
He has attended to the voice of my prayer.”
Psalm 66:19

1. “But certainly God has heard me”

a) This is, of course, a personal testimony.
b) It reflects a subjective opinion.

2. “He has attended to the voice of my prayer”

a) This is just an extension of the first thought.
b) There was absolute certainty on the part of the psalmist that God had heard his prayer.
HOW MAY WE HAVE THIS SAME CERTAINTY?

How may we have the same kind of certainty of faith that the psalmist had? The answer is a decided “Yes!” Four texts may be highlighted:-

1. God will hear the prayer of the godly

“But know that the LORD has set apart for Himself him who is godly;
The LORD will hear when I call to Him.”
Psalm 4:3

2. God will hear and bless the righteous

“For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous;
With favour You will surround him as with a shield.”
Psalm 5:12

3. God will hear a just cause

“Hear a just cause, O LORD, attend to my cry;
Give ear to my prayer which is not from deceitful lips.”
Psalm 17:1

4. God will hear the prayer of those who trust Him

“The LORD is my strength and my shield;
My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped.”
Psalm 28:7
