“Hear my voice, O God, in my meditation…” Psalm 64:1a
SUPERSCRIPTION
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
This superscription contains the barest minimum of information. Two standard features may be noticed.
1. The name of the author: David.
2. The Chief Musician would attend to yet another psalm composed by David.
TROUBLED BY WICKED PEOPLE
It must be very hard to live in circumstances where one sees so much wickedness. Psalm 64 is a “meditation” on the subject of “wickedness”.
“Hear my voice, O God, in my meditation;
Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
From the rebellion of the workers of iniquity.”
Psalm 64:1-2
1. “Hear my voice, O God”
a) This was a plaintive cry.
b) Once again there was a battle to vanquish fear.
2. “In my meditation”
a) This was David’s prayer.
b) The contents of this prayer may be likened to a complaint to God.
3. “Preserve my life… hide me”
a) The enemy was mentioned.
b) The wicked enemies of David were making secret plots.
c) They were workers of iniquity.
d) They were plotting rebellion.
THE PLACE OF PRAYER
Once again, David found himself driven to pray to God. There was nothing more important than to pour out his heart’s concern and grief in prayer. His very life was in danger from the wicked plots of his enemies.
