Day 222 – Psalm 61

“I will trust in the shelter of Your wings…” Psalm 61:4b

FACING LIFE’S TOUGH CIRCUMSTANCES EFFECTIVELY

How does one effectively face tough circumstances of life? From our study of the Scriptures (the Psalms are outstanding in this respect), we may highlight the following:-

1. Prayer must ascend to the Lord seeking His involvement.

2. Trust in God must be exercised even as prayers are presented humbly.

3. A strong and deep knowledge of God will go a very long way.

A STRONG DETERMINATION

We must add one more thought to the above. We must have a strong sense of fortitude of spirit expressed in determination.

“I will abide in Your tabernacle forever;
I will trust in the shelter of Your wings.”
Psalm 61:4

1. “I will”

a) This phrase was used emphatically twice over.
b) It represents determination.
c) It also reflects the application of the human spirit.
i) The human spirit is an invisible and intangible element.
ii) It expresses itself in “a determined fortitude of heart and mind”.

2. “I will abide in Your tabernacle”

a) David affirmed his faith in God.
b) The tabernacle represented the Presence of God.
c) David looked beyond his problems to the tabernacle of God.

3. “I will trust in the shelter of Your wings”

a) Another imagery that helped David was the idea of “Wings”. God was like a protective bird that would instinctively protect its young.
b) He found much comfort and encouragement in his trust in God.
