Psalm 57:5 "Let Your glory be above all the earth..."

Day 183 – Psalm 57

“Let Your glory be above all the earth…” Psalm 57:5

THE FIRST LINE OF APPEAL

The first line of appeal was to plead earnestly for God’s mercy to be extended. This is a valid line of appeal to God! David was correct to appeal to God for Divine mercy (Psalm 57:1).

THE SECOND LINE OF APPEAL

David had a second line of appeal that is truly fascinating.

“Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
Let Your glory be above all the earth.”
Psalm 57:5

1. Concern for the glory of God’s name

a) This is a truly profound concept.
b) This was a concept Moses understood and practised in his life.
c) One of the greatest intercessory prayers recorded in the Scriptures may be found in Exodus 32:11-14.
d) Moses was deeply concerned about the glorious name of God.

2. Concept taught by God Himself

a) The classic text that touches on the great name of God may be found in Malachi 1:11, 14.
b) God’s great name is not only to be borne in mind, it also serves as a strong line of appeal in prayer.

3. “Be exalted, O God, above the heavens”

a) God’s name must indeed be exalted above the heavens.
b) God’s name is also tied to His care for His servants.
c) In upholding His servants, so will His name be exalted!

4. “Let Your glory be above all the earth”

This is something that David was most conscious of- God’s glory! May we echo these profound words when we pray… “Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name” (Matthew 6:9).
