“God will hear, and afflict them…” Psalm 55:19

DEEP ASSURANCE

David had fought a deep sense of insecurity and fear and won. Instead of a horrible sense of terror, a wonderful sense of assurance now rested in his soul.

“God will hear, and afflict them,
Even He who abides from of old.
Because they do not change,
Therefore they do not fear God.”
Psalm 55:19

1. Assurance about God hearing prayers

a) He will indeed hear and answer prayers.

b) His ears will never be shut to cries for justice.

2. Assurance about who God is

a) David’s God is “He who abides from of old”.

b) He has always been there for David helping him in all his battles.

c) This great God was the same God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

3. Assurance that God will deal with the wicked

a) God will afflict the wicked.

b) He will uphold justice for the righteous.

4. Assurance that God is Omniscient

a) God will act righteously because He is all-knowing.

b) God will act justly when He examines the wicked.

i) He will give them a chance to repent and to change their ways.

ii) But if they continue to remain unrepentant He will chastise them.

iii) He will only punish those who show a blatant disregard for man and God.
