“As for me, I will call upon God…” Psalm 55:16a

CULTIVATING OUR PRAYER-LIFE

As David took to contemplation so his prayer life improved significantly. There were times when he prayed only because the circumstances of his life drove him to prayer. Over time, prayer became more and more spontaneous.

“As for me, I will call upon God,
And the LORD shall save me.
Evening and morning, and at noon
I will pray and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice.”
Psalm 5:16-17

a) The terrible sense of anxiety that David first felt was noticeably absent in this text.
b) David had made a definite and distinct choice about calling upon God.
c) He will call upon God- naturally, spontaneously.

2. “And the LORD shall save me”

a) There was quiet confidence now.
b) In His own time and in His own way, God will respond to prayers offered to Him.

3. “Evening and morning, and at noon”

a) David would establish a strong prayer life.
b) He would keep his heart well attuned to the Lord through regular prayer.

4. “I will cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice”

a) No longer would he need to say, “Do not hide Yourself from my supplication”.
b) He was assured that God will indeed hear his voice.
c) A cultivated prayer-life brings a wonderfully calming effect on everyone who calls upon God with heartfelt-sincerity.
