QUALITIES OF A JUDGE

Judges must possess many qualities, or they would not be able to discharge their responsibilities effectively. What are some qualities that would be considered “essential”? The following may be highlighted:-

1. Knowledge of the law

2. Wisdom and discernment

3. Experience

4. Impartiality

ONE VITAL QUALITY FOR A DIVINE JUDGE

The psalmist Asaph suggested one quality that must be considered absolutely vital in a Divine Judge.

“Let the heavens declare His righteousness,
For God Himself is the Judge.”
Psalm 50:6

1. The heavens

a) This may be thought of as a panel that would examine God.
b) The “heavens” are employed in contrast to a sinful earth.

2. God Himself is the Judge

a) What would the heavens find if God would be the Judge?
b) The heavens would surely be able to determine whether God would be a suitable Judge.

3. What would the heavens discover about God?

a) God would of course possess all knowledge for He is omniscient.
b) God would, above everything else, be found to possess full “Righteousness”. He is Upright and Moral and thus eminently qualified to Judge His people.
