Day 98 – Psalm 50

“Gather My saints together to Me…” Psalm 50:5

GOD’S GRACE EXPRESSED

One of the most significant expressions of God’s grace extended may be seen in His covenants.

“Gather My saints together to Me,
Those who have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice.”
Psalm 50:5

1. What is a “covenant”?

a) It is a defined relationship between God and man.
b) It is well established.
i) God declares what He has done for His people.
ii) He further declares His commitment to the relationship established in the covenant.
c) The covenant is then sealed “by sacrifice”.
i) The covenant is considered sacred by virtue of a sacrifice.
ii) Animal sacrifice in ancient worship often involved the killing of consecrated animals.

2. The people of the Covenant

a) They are called “His (God’s) people” (Psalm 50:4b).
b) They are also called “His saints” (Psalm 50:5a).
c) These terms express God’s view of the people who had entered into the covenant.

3. Examples of Covenants (Old Testament)

a) Abrahamic Covenant (Genesis 12-22)
b) Sinaitic Covenant (Exodus 20)
c) Davidic Covenant (Psalm 132; 2 Samuel 7)
