Day 66 – Psalm 47

“He is greatly exalted.” Psalm 47:9c

BASKING IN THE GLORY OF THE LORD

The glory of God as King is beautifully portrayed in Psalm 47. God’s people are graciously presented as people who bask in His glory.

“The princes of the people have gathered together,
The people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
He is greatly exalted.”
Psalm 47:9

1. Affirming the glory of the Lord

a) Shields were not just protective weaponry.
b) They represented the might and glory of kings.
c) Shields of conquered kings were laid at the feet of the victorious king.
d) This text describes a glorious truth. All shields are brought before the feet of God as an act of submission to His sovereign rule.
e) God is indeed greatly exalted.
i) Because He has conquered all the earth.
ii) Because He reigns supreme.

2. The princes of the people have gathered together

a) These princes are identified as “the people of the God of Abraham”.
b) They are well-described as “princes” (Cf. Genesis 17:6c where God said that “kings” shall come from Abraham’s loins).
c) This is a prophetic statement that includes all who believe in the Lord Jesus.

“To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood,
And has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him
be glory and dominion forever and ever.”
Revelation 1:5-6
