“The LORD of hosts is with us…” Psalm 46:7a
CONFIDENCE IN GOD
Our faith in God must evidence itself in tremendous confidence when we face challenging circumstances. One thought that we must seek to sustain is beautifully stated in this text.
“The LORD of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge.”
Psalm 46:7
1. “The LORD of hosts is with us”
a) The very name of “The LORD” must dispel fear and bring confidence to our heart.
i) This was the chosen Covenant name God gave to Israel (Exodus 6:1-8).
ii) The invocation of His name should bring forth strength to the heart.
b) “The LORD of hosts”
i) The word “hosts” describes the army of angels that God has.
ii) Each angel is powerful! Imagine a whole hosts of powerful angels assigned to protect us!
2. “Jacob”
a) Jacob’s name is mentioned on purpose.
b) He fled from the wrath of his brother.
c) He was alone, helpless and distraught.
3. “The God of Jacob is our refuge”
a) The LORD God was Jacob’s strong refuge.
b) God protected him from evil.
c) God provided for him and blessed him abundantly.
May there be great confidence when we exercise our faith in the Lord our God.
