Day 39 – Psalm 45

“Why do You hide Your face…” Psalm 44:24a

A CRY FROM THE DEPTHS OF DESPAIR

The sons of Korah just could not comprehend why God had not heard the prayers offered. The silence of God was frightening, to say the least.

“Why do You hide Your face,
And forget our affliction and our oppression?
For our soul is bowed down to the dust,
Our body clings to the ground.”
Psalm 44:24-25

1. A shift in tone

There is a subtle shift in the tone of the sons of Korah at this stage.

a) There was now an inquiry as to why God had hidden His face.
b) There was now an inquiry as to why God had seemed to have forgotten
i) The affliction of His people.
ii) The oppression of His people.

2. A plaintive tone

The tone has shifted:-

a) From indignation to sadness.
b) From claiming innocence to humble sorrow.
i) The soul was indeed bowed down to the dust.
ii) The body now sinks so low it clung to the ground.

A NEEDFUL REMINDER

God had spoken clearly to the Levites in particular on the subject of coming to Him with humble spirit.

“If their uncircumcised hearts are humbled,
And they accept their guilt…”
Leviticus 26:41b

This is the only way to approach God in times of great trials and tribulation!
