PRAYER FOR GUIDANCE

Prayer in times of distress is an invaluable means of grace. But how should we pray? What should we ask for? Let us ponder this insightful prayer found in the following text.

“Oh, send out Your light and Your truth!
Let them lead me; let them bring me to Your holy hill
And to Your tabernacle.”
Psalm 43:3

1. Descriptive terms for God’s word

a) Your light
b) Your truth

2. Divine guidance recognized

a) Much depends on the word the Lord sends to His servants.
b) The word of God is recognized as that which would safely lead us.

3. Direction to the Sanctuary of God

a) It should not surprise us that there should be strong references to the Tabernacle.
b) The ministry of the Levites (the sons of Korah) revolved around the Tabernacle.
i) They assisted the Aaronic priests with the services of the Tabernacle.
ii) Their whole life was dedicated to the Tabernacle ministry in all its variety.

4. Two special terms employed to describe the place of God’s sanctuary (Exodus 25:8)

a) God’s holy hill
b) God’s tabernacle

(It is possible that this particular psalm was written before the establishment of temple worship.)
